My healing work with transgender individuals started in my teen years when my then girlfriend told me they wanted me to treat them like a man. At the time, I didn’t even know what transgender meant and neither did my partner. I just had the understanding that my partner, underneath it all felt like a man trapped in a woman’s body and wanted to me to acknowledge the man inside and ignore the female body at all costs.
Even though he knew he identified as a man, he still carried the energy of being raised as a female in a family and a society that would not support his true gender identity. I watched him struggle with his fears of abandonment for many years. The anxiety and panic that he lived in around his gender identity was holding him hostage from living authentically. It was through this relationship that I learned how much power and energy identity holds.
I didn’t know that years later I would discover my own identity as a Healer and be able to help transgender individuals transition their energy body while they are transitioning their physical and emotional bodies.
I am married to one of the most authentic humans I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. Our relationship began at the very beginning of his physical, and emotional transition from female to male.
Fast forward over a decade later…
Throughout our relationship, over the last 6 years I have been the driving force of introducing the spiritual aspect of transitioning to Aydian.
He’s always been very proactive in supporting his own emotional transition, he is open to feeling his feelings and talking about them. He even travels around the world speaking about his emotional transition — and like many transgender folks, Aydian struggled with growing the confidence to feel secure in his gender identity.
In 2015, I started doing weekly SRT sessions with Aydian and we began to clear away the deep rooted subconscious programs of unworthiness and toxic shame built-up from years of feeling lost and like he was living some sort of a lie. I’ve seen his confidence and self-worth grow beyond any limit he had ever set for himself. I saw him put his authentic self out there in the world naked (basically) to create change and visibility of what it means to fully embrace your true self. I saw him stand next to cisgender men in the Men’s Health Ultimate Guy Contest with confidence that he was man-enough to be there. It’s amazing what you can do with your life when your subconscious mind isn’t replaying the story of your past for you 24/7.
Through SRT, we all have the ability to start fresh and re-program our subconscious mind to remind us of our true potential and the conscious decision we can make to live to our true potential in all areas of our lives.
Since 2002, I have taken strides in the research and support surrounding this community. I began my undergraduate studies at a small, Catholic affiliated college where I faced constant discrimination, as my partner at the time struggled to come out as transgender. I lost many friends and began to fight back for LGBT rights on campus, finally establishing the first Gay/Straight Alliance at my college. My intention was to promote tolerance and cohesion among students of all different gender/sexual identities. I also wanted there to be a place for LGBT students to explore their Spirituality without feeling judgement from any specific religious group. I became increasingly outspoken about LGBT rights in my classes, questioning fixed theories and ignorance.
In 2009, I started a support-based collaboration channel on YouTube called “TMatesFTM” for partners of trans men to discuss the partner’s side of transitioning and create a supportive space for partners of trans folks. For my final research project in graduate school, I chose to do a needs assessment for the transgender community, identifying the true needs of the community with the intention of creating further awareness.
By 2010, I attained my MSW degree and had interned at an agency for LGBT youth doing individual counseling and community outreach work to create safe spaces for LGBT youth. In 2011, my husband and I were involved in a project for suicide prevention aired on MTV and LOGO called “It Gets Better.” The special reveals both the struggles and the hope that exists for a couple living in the community and is meant to foster confidence and inspire other young people in the LGBT community to see that they too can overcome adversity and live happy, fulfilling lives.
In 2012, I was hired as an LGBT Safe Schools Coordinator doing community education, youth leadership and development and facilitating groups to create safer schools for GLBT identified youth. I began doing a lot of public speaking and workshops dedicated to supporting partners of transgender folks.
Throughout all of these years, I have dedicated myself to learning how to heal myself so that I can better understand the healing needs of LGBT community at large. It’s been amazing to be witness to so many strong warriors that have overcome the emotional and spiritual barriers that attempt to block them from becoming the most authentic version of themselves.
